DPE Error running on report Server

We created a DPE to pull data off a Web Service to be used as a datasource in
the reports we create. We created and added the code group to the
rssrvpolicy.config and rsmgrpolicy.config files. Also added the extension
name to the Data section of the RSReportServer.config file. The report works
correctly in debug designer mode but we receive the following error when
trying to run the report through the report manager or report server.
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get

DPE Error on Report Server

We have created a DPE that returns data from a Web Services and uses it as
the datasource in the reports. We have changed the config files and added
the code group also added the name to the data section of the

the report server or report manager. We get the following error.

and password) somewhere first. If you have just entered these and then
immediately see a 401 error, it means that one or both of your user ID and
password were invalid for whatever reason (entered incorrectly, user ID
suspended etc.).

downloading database to local mdf file, sql dumb on SMSE

Hi,

I'm trying to work on a database when I'm not connected. I can't figure out how to get a local copy of a database.mdf that I created on the server, onto my hard drive, using SQL Management Studio Express. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd be forever in your debt. Thanks

Hi,

You can backup/restore database or your detach/attach database.

Use sp_detach_db procedure and sp_attach_db procedure to achieve this.

For more information, check

downgrade SQL2005 to SQL2k - Unicode ANSI issue

Hello,

I created a script with database publishing wizard to convert a SS2005
db into a SS2k db. The script has schema and data and looks very good.
When I try to start the created script in SS2k-Query analyzer, I get an
error like (in german)

Server: Nachr.-Nr. 105, Schweregrad 15, Status 1, Zeile 2
?ffnendes Anführungszeichen vor der Zeichenfolge '????
'.
It meens - translated from german- 'opening quote before string
<blabla>'

In the sript it stops at this line:
EXEC dbo.sp_addextendedproperty @.name=N'GUID', @.value=N'????

In the script many lines before I have many other GUIDs which QA
doesn't complain, so it's an Unicode/ANSI-issue I guess. What to do
now?

thanks

"Database publishing wizard" I will have to admit that this tool is unknown
to me. Do you mean the scripting wizard in Management Studio, or do you mean
a third-party tool?

In any case, the Open File dialog in QA has a File Format combo where you
can specify Unicode format. Normally QA (as many other Windows) tools
determines whether a file is Unicode or not by looking for a byte-order
mark in the beginning of the file. But some tools do not generate a byte-
order mark.

I downloaded the DB Publish Wizard, and it does indeed generate a Unicode
file. I had created this table on SQL 2005:

CREATE TABLE utlndsk(a nvarchar(234) NOT NULL)
go
INSERT utlndsk(a) VALUES (nchar(8080) + nchar(324))

and I was able to insert that data successfully on SQL 2000 through
Query Analyzer.

Maybe there is some special catch with extended properties. (I never
use them myself, so I did not play with one.)

What is in that extended property on SQL 2005?

the GUID-value was created by the upsizing wizard of MS-Access2003 and
I really don't know what for it is. But the conservative way is to not
touch the values created by this wizard. As the script generated by DB
Pub wizard crashed at only this one GUID-value (others worked fine) I
commented this line out and manually copy/pasted this value. Well
done...

Hi EverB,

I have created a table say T1 with 5 columns (col1.....col5).
I have created an index on col4 and col5.

iam executing a select query say.

select col1,col2,col3 from t1 where col1 =0;

In the above query i hav not used the columns for which i hav created the index. My ques is-

Does the index really works when u execute the above query?

Any answer please.......
It wuld be better if u culd suggest some sites for this.

Thanks and Regds,

Don't send subscription if no data on report

I am fairly new to Reporting Services. That said I have created a
report that runs daily and via a subscription sends the report as
email. This works fine day in and day out, however some days there is
no data for the report. On the days when the report contains no data I
don't want a blank report sent to the subscribers, I prefer that they
get nothing. Is this out of the box functionality and I'm just not
finding it or is it coding I need to do? Much thanks to anyone willing
to point me in the right direction.
Amy Slankard
aslankard@.alumni.cofc.eduI don't think that functionality is built in but my way of handling it
is to include something in the subscription query that returns an
empty query if there is no data in the report. Nothing bad happens if
the subscription query returns no subscribers, just nothing gets sent.
It means including some form of the actual report query in the
subscription query so depending on how complex things are that may or
may not be a very practical or efficient way to go. My situation needs
some fairly heavy preprocessing that runs using the SQL Server Agent
in the early morning which among other things, sets a bit flag in a
table to say whether or not there is any data to report. My report
that runs some time later then includes that flag in its subscription
query.
Cheers

Hi,

thanks - it was the missing master key.

Did I get it right, that thouse activation procedures are polling the queue ?
If yes - is there a way to use some kind of notification so that the activation procedure is just called every time when a message is enqueued ?

Best whishes,

Domain User privilege for connecting SQL server 2000

Hi,

My server administrator has created a few users as domain user privilege for connecting SQL server from my application. However it faild to connect, and

with Domain Admin privilege, my app is running ok.

I asked admin person to upgrade domain user privilege to connect SQL server,

but he couldn't do this for security reason, and told it should work with domain user.

Is it true for domain user to connect SQL server without any problem?

Do I need to add the user, domain user, into Logins of Security inside SQL server Enterprise Manager?

Or inside users of my database section of SQL server EManager?

Thanks,

dixon

You have to create a login in SQL Server 2000 that corresponds to the domain user. Look at sp_grantlogin:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/tsqlref/ts_sp_ga-gz_8dri.asp

Domain Security Groups unable to Browse Report Folders

I am user SQL/RS 2005 on a 2003 Server on a 2000 domain and I have created a
domain security group and added a user to it. I then went into the security
tab of reporting services Home and added the group with the role of Browser.
I then added the same group to a child folder in the same manor. The user
can NOT see any folders or objects to browse and doesn't get the My Reports
folder showing either. If I add one of the builting groups (ssuch as
builtin\users) to the Home folder, all users can see and browse that folder.
The only references I have found say that domain groups should automatically
be enabled when RS is installed. I have had this problem from the beginning.
I even tried adding the user to a local group and adding the local group to
the Home folder and had no luck. If I add the same user explecitly to the
Home and sub-folders, everything works fine.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong in my configuration?
I tallked to a colleague who has SAL/RS Dev Edition on an XP machine
attached to a 2003 domain and he has the exact same problem.
This is very frustrating because it is a maintenance nightmare for the site
security.
I did check and the Default Web Site and the Reports and the Report Server
site are set to Windows Authentication and not to allow anonymous access.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Are you specifying the domain name before the group name? Like
MYDOMAIN\MYGROUPNAME.

Is there any special user id / previledges you are running your SQL and RS
services under?
Mine are as follows:
SQL Server: Local System
SQL Server Active Directory Helper: Network Service
SQL Server Agent: Local System
SQL Server Analysis Services: {domain account setup for SQL}
SQL Server Browser: {domain account setup for SQL}
SQL Server FullText Search: Local System
SQL Server Integration Services: Network Service

once it copy the group it never do it again but I'm not sure

below. Now I create a domain security group and add the appropriate users to
it. Then I create a local group on the SQL machine and add the domain group
as the only member of the local group. I then give the local group the
appropriate permission to each folder on the web site (browser, content
manager, admin, etc.). RS properly checks and shows the folders it should to
each user.
Services run as "Network Service":
SQL Server Active Directory Helper
SQL Server Integration Services
Services run as "Local System":
SQL Server FullText Search
SQL Server VSS Writer
Services run as a domain admin ID that I created just for the SQL services:
SQL Server
SQL Server Agent
SQL Server Analysis Services
SQL Server Browser
SQL Server Reporting Services
I think my problem was that some of the services initially installed with
the wrong type of "Log On As" user. Everything seems to be working just fine
for me now.

I have been trying to get my Domain Security Groups to work with SRS for
over a week. The only thing that seems to work is adding the domain user to
the root (home) folder and managing sub-folders with groups. This is a huge
pain when you have 100's of users.
One interesting observation is when I add a test user to our domain and then
add them to the ReportingGroup on our domain, this test-user is allowed to
access what I set forth with groups, without adding them specifically to
reporting services as an individual user. Could some attribute in Active
Directory, that we place on regular users, be blocking the SRS server from
utilizing these regaulr domain users?
I am not an AD expert, nor am I really a network admin, I am just trying to
use tools defined by Microsoft to manage a Microsoft product. This is a
critical issue for us, do you think that if I burn a support ticket they
would be able to resolve this issue? It seems I am not the only one with this
problem!

Domain group members cannot connect [SQL Server 2k5 Workgroup Ed.]

We have a brand new out-of-the-box SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition install
.
We are using Windows Authentication, and have created SQL logins for about
40 different groups on our domain. We've given those logins the appropriate
permissions on the databases they're supposed to be able to access.
The problem is that when users try to connect to the SQL server, they cannot
connect. An error 18456 is thrown, and logged in the Application event log
stating "Login failed for user OURDOMAIN\theuser" (example values). The
user is properly a member of group added as a login to SQL Server, and we've
confirmed that there are not conflicting permissions that would deny those
users access via another route.
This is only a problem for domain-based groups. If we create a local group
on the SQL server machine, through Computer Management -> Local Users and
Groups, then make the same users a member of THAT group, and finally then
follow the same process to add that local group to SQL Server Logins and set
the database privileges, it works!!
Our group memberships change frequently, and are used for a lot more than
just SQL server permissions. So, using local groups and maintaining
membership in both places is not really feasible. Any ideas why a local
machine group containing domain user accounts would work fine, but a domain
group containing the same accounts would not?
Thanks in advance.
~JimIs the server that SQL is on joined to the domain?

Domain Group Members and Database Roles

Greetings...
I have a SQL2005 Express database where I have created 3 user defined
database roles, granted those db roles all the required permissions on the
required db objects, and made a few (Domain\Group) groups login members of
those database roles. The 3 roles are for high, medium, and low rights.
When a user logins with Windows NT authority, I can determine their identity
with
SUSER_SNAME(), but how can I easily determine what role or roles the user,
not the group, belongs to? The user would not have a principal_id, but the
group does. There's got to be a way to know what role the USER is in, isn't
there?
DaveHi
Try
sys.database_role_members catalog view

that view is not too informative... I finally got this query to work for
what I want:
Select name as Roles
From sys.database_principals
Where type='R' And is_fixed_role=0 And principal_id<>0
But I wouldn't call this 'easy' or intuitive...

Sorry... IS_MEMBER() doesn't work either. Although the group is assigned to
the role, the individual user who is a member of the group is not, and so
IS_MEMBER() returns 0 every time. It looks like the query I constructed is
the only way to get the info I want.
