Download SQL Server client tools

Hi.
Despite the indignance of some people, here is the link to download the SQL
Server Client Tools for use with MSDE.
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...SP4-x86-ENU.EXE
I have downloaded MSDE and the Client Tools myself so I know this to be the
case. I came across this page when searching for the client tools for a new
laptop on which I have already installed MSDE.
I do wish that people would not confuse "I don't know how to do something" w
ith "it cannot be done." There's very little in this universe that cannot b
e done
Anyway, in answer to your question, you were half right. The download is on
ly part of SP4 (thankfully) and therefore only weighs about 67MB, and not th
e 240MB total SP size.
I hope this helps. Have fun!

http://www.eggheadcafe.com/forummerit.aspxI believe most people are looking for ways which are in
compliance with licensing agreements. You need a valid,
legal SQL Server CAL to install the client tools. If someone
does not have this, the methods you are suggesting are not
legal.
The gist of it is explained in the following link:

>Incidentally, if you can't install from the SP4 download, download the SQL
Server 2000 Evaluation and simply install just the Client Tools.

The appropriate uses of MSDE is no longer posted on
Microsoft's site since the release of 2005, but the related
Q and A stated:
Q. Can I use SQL Server tools and services in conjunction
with MSDE?
A. You can only use SQL Server tools and services in
conjunction with MSDE if you acquired MSDE through SQL
Server 2000 (Developer Edition, Standard Edition, or
Enterprise Edition), and if you are using MSDE in
conjunction with a properly licensed copy of SQL Server
2000. Visit the How to Buy page for information on obtaining
a valid SQL Server license.
Note: The tools and services included with SQL Server
Developer Edition may not be used to manage production
server environments.

Download SQL query analyser

Hi, my client need to be able to run some queries on my
db.
Is there anywhere they can by or downlad JUST the sql
query analayer?
M@.)If you are talking about MSDE which does not contain GUE environment, you
could use OSQL. It is command line utility to run query.

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/development.asp
You can't download Query Analyzer for free. However, you can install client
tools (EM, QA etc) from official media if you have your licensing in check.

Downgrade 2005 to 2000 - possible?

I have developed a database using SQL Server 2005 Express for 2005 Enterprise. My client now realises they don't have a licence for 2005 and require a copy of the database that will work on SQL Server 2000. I can find plenty of information about migrating from 2000 to 2005 but not the other way round. Is this possible and, if so, I would really appreciate any pointers on how to do it.
Patrick Grey

There is no easy way to do this, neither the classic detach/attach nor backup/restore will work in this case.

Best bet is to script out using Generate Script Wizard and Integration Services

Doubt with Client Network Utility

Hi. I've been worling with Ms SQL Server 7 / 2000 and on every installation
I've done, after installing the Server I had to Install Connectivity Only on
Clients in order to configure Client Network Utility to add the Server
Alias.
Does MSDE have an option like this ? Does MSDE Needs a Client Network
Utility on a Client PC?
Thanks,

MDAC installs the Client Network Utility (cliconfg.exe) as well... and it's
usually required from all apps... =;-)

Double Byte Character Support?

I have a Point of Sale System which uses SQL (MSDE or SQL
2000) as the back end database. We have a client that
wants to buy a Chinese version of the Point of Sale
System...so my question is, does SQL 2000 or MSDE support
the double byte character set? Is there anything special I
need to do to accomplish this, or is there a special
version of SQL to buy?Hi Ray
SQL Server supports double byte character sets ("unicode")
Types NCHAR, NVARCHAR NTEXT are unicode (double byte)
Types CHAR, VARCHAR, TEXT are single byte.
There are also collations which cover language character sets & sort orders
as well.
This applies to all editions of SQL Server.

Does the Sql Server 2005 EVAL distribution support run of packages under DtExec?

I believe I have made a complete install of Sql Server 2005 on my dev. machine, including all client tools, and can run SSIS packages from the dev. environment.

However DtExec refuses to run any package and always throws the "insufficient version" error (as does the "RunPackage" component, probably for the same reason).

I have repeatedly attempted to find something more to install from the Sql Server 2005 eval release that will allow DTExec to run without the "insufficient version" error, but can find nothing else to install from the eval. The install wizard (and the "change" wizard) indicates everything is installed and will not build a list of any additional components to install.

Are we sure that DtExec will install and run from a sql server 2005 eval distribution?

Licenses are in the pipeline (not that pipleine) but we need to start testing our SSIS solution in the meantime.

p.s. Kudos to the dev. team, it really is an excellent tool!

Thanks,

Ken

This sounds like the SSIS services feature is missing, you may just have the workstation components. If running on a workstation OS, then this can be an issue-

Thanks for the reply Darren.

The O.S. is Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and to the best of my ability I have confirmed and reconfirmed that every possible installable component and piece of software provided in the Sql Server 2005 eval. distro. has been fully installed in the runtime environment in question.

I recently used the same Sql Server 2005 distro. to perform an identical install onto an XP Pro machine and DtExec seems to run fine.

So I will assume I have some kind of flawed installation on the win2k advanced server box and will try a complete deinstall and reinstall as my last resort.
