DR for Crystal Enterprise and Business Objects

Have to build DR solution and subj is a part of it.

Maybe some one has done it already… share the experience please.

Dr in my case will between 2 different data centers, replication is san 2 san so on other side I have a warm standby that does not see san disks and will become active if and only if the primary data center is down, windows domain is the same, ip addresses, names of the servers are different. How a cluster will behave is interesting as well (I mean CE is on cluster, not geo distributed cluster).

I have CE90. I’m talking to their tech support that seems to be outsourced, they didn’t really produce in 5 days anything more then a part of their own documentation in pdf format for CE version I do not use J…

So I’m wondering maybe somebody had to walk similar path already…

I see you were already involved on the previous thread that discussed some of the general considerations for such SAN replication (it was titled SAN Replication and is at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=465113&SiteID=1). Unfortunately I'm not aware of any specific considerations for CE.

Downgrading from Enterprise to Standard

Hi
Does anyone know how to go from SQL Server 2000 Enterprise to Standard and restore all of the databases? I've tried restoring the Mater Database, but I am getting the following
The backup of the system database on device XXXX cannot be restored because it was created by a different version of the server (134217546) than this server (134217488)
KB article 264474 shows how to get a server back to the version level, if the flavor of SQL Server is the same [i.e. Enterprise] but not if the server is being downgraded from Enterprise to Standard for licensing reasons
Thanks
ChrisChris,
This appears to be backup / restore that is the problem.
You should be able to detach the databases from the SS2KEE server and then
attach them to the SS2KSt server. Check this article (from the BOL) on
Attaching and Detaching Databases. The file formats are the same.

Downgrade SQL2K Enterprise to SQL2K Standard

Is it possible to downgrade SQL from Enterprise to Standard Edition, or do you have to remove the previous installation (uninstall) and reinstall. Meaning you would also have to restore all user databases? Thanks.

No. Downgrading from SQL Enterprise edition to Standard edition is not supported.

But if you also have licsense and media of SQL Standard edition and your machine has enough resources such as free disk space, you can install SQL Standard edition side by side with Enterprise Edition, which is supported. Then you can transfer data from Enterprise edition to Standard edition. At the end, you can uninstall Enterprise edition if necessary.

Downgrade SQL Server edition

Hi all,
I was running an MSDN version of SQL 2000 Developer Edition on a server
until I accidentally upgraded it to Enterprise Edition while attempting
to install some Management Tools. Is it possible to downgrade it back
to Dev Edition?

Thanks,
JoshAs far as I know, there's no way to downgrade other than
uninstall/reinstall (after backing up and/or detaching your user
databases, of course).

Simon|||downgrading feature is not available. u have to uninstall and install

downgrade lisences

Hi,
Is there a way to downgrade license for already installed and in use SQL
Server like:
1. Downgrade Enterprise Edition license from processor based to say 25 CAL
based.
2. Downgrade Enterprise Edition SQL Server to Standard Edition?
OR would the only solution be uninstall-install.
ThanksHi,
1. Downgrade Enterprise Edition license from processor based to say 25 CAL
based.
There is a undocumented was to do this by editing the registry.
You have to edit the registry using regedt32 :- (Not recommended at all)
\\Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\_Microsoft
\Microsoft SQL
Server\80\MSSQLLicenseInfo\MSS_QL8.00\Mode key\
Change the value to 0 and you get both options available.
2. Downgrade Enterprise Edition SQL Server to Standard Edition?
You can upgrade from a lower edition to higher edition. But to downgrade an
edition is not possible directly. The only solution is
to take a backup of all databases , Installl standard edition , latest
service pack and restore the databases back.
Thanks

downgrade from sql 2k enterprise edition to standard

Hello All,
I need to downgrade my production server from enterprise to standard edition
because of cost.
Has anyone been through this scenario?
My plan is to backup all dbs, leave data folders intact (I have db files in
4 drives), uninstall enterprise, install standard and reattach db files.
My questions are:
I have tons of jobs and DTS packages on the server. Can I simply restore
the msdb from enterprise or is it going to have problem with standard
edition?
Does anyone have a script to save logins and restore logins?
Thanks for any help,

The following links should help you in the restore and account migration
process:

With regard to your question on MSDB restore, I'm less certain if that will
work... If the SQL Server builds are the same I think you'll be OK, if not,
please see the following link:

Also, you may want to consider running SQL backups on all of your databases,
prior to uninstalling SQL Server. This will give you one more avenue for the
restore process.

Downgrade 2005 to 2000 - possible?

I have developed a database using SQL Server 2005 Express for 2005 Enterprise. My client now realises they don't have a licence for 2005 and require a copy of the database that will work on SQL Server 2000. I can find plenty of information about migrating from 2000 to 2005 but not the other way round. Is this possible and, if so, I would really appreciate any pointers on how to do it.
Patrick Grey

There is no easy way to do this, neither the classic detach/attach nor backup/restore will work in this case.

Best bet is to script out using Generate Script Wizard and Integration Services

|||...was worried that would be the case. Thanks.

You could do the below steps:-

2. detach all the databases from sql enterrise edition

Although I've not downgraded systems like this, I've never had a problem

Although I've not downgraded systems like this, I've never had a problem
restoring databases on SQL 2000 Personal, even ones created in Enterprise
Edition.

Down-grade

How easy is it to down-grade SQLServer 2000 from Enterprise edition to
Standard edition? Are there any risks involved? If yes, what are these
risks and what could I do to minimise them?See if this helps:

If I have read this topic correctly, then this is for moving databases from
one SQLServer running Enterprise version to another SQLServer running
standard edition.
I'm more interested in physically down-grading an existing server.
Griff|||Hi Griff,
You need to remove sql enterprise edition and install sql standard edition.
You could do the below steps:-
1. Backup and databases (can be used if attach fails)
2. detach all the databases from sql enterrise edition
3. Remove sql enterprise edition and install sql standard with same
directory structure
4. Apply the same service pack level
5. Attach the MDF and LDF files back in standard edition.
If attach fails you could restore the database using the backup files
performed in step-1
FYI, I have never done this type of downgrade.
Thanks

down grading can i?

It seems as though our last administrator has installed Enterprise Licenses (SQL 2005) We need these to be Standard, can I down grade some how with minimal to no disruption to our databases?

If so How, if not (which i almost positive that you are going to say NO) then i assume I am going to have to reinstall the SQL server. What is the best way going about this with out having to restore all of the databases? Can i copy all of the MDF and LDF files else where and then once the new installation has completed create the users, then databases and then replace the MDF and LDF?

Is there a better way then this if so it would be a huge help.

Thanks

Brad

I believe that it will be necessary to remove SQL Enterprise Edition and reinstall SQL Standard Edition. Enterprise Edition installs some supporting files that are not allowed with Standard Edition so you cannot simply 'downgrade' the license since you would still have the functionality.

Make a set of complete FULL backups, including master and msdb. Restore them after you have reinstalled Standard Edition. Or copy the mdf/ldf files, recreate any SQL Users, then ATTACH the databases.
