Downloads from the SSIS team

Hi, Just a quick note for all that the SSIS team has started to post fresh content for download.

We will be adding some links to various pages so you can easily see things when looking at the the SSIS portal on MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/SQL/bi/integration/default.aspx

For now if you search for "ssis" on the microsoft downloads site you will find the current content. Sample Logging reports, jump start training, Meta Data info, and sample components. More coming over the next few weeks...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en

Thank you and I hope everyone enjoys winding down 2005, or blowing it out, depending on your likes :)

Several sample transforms are now available as well.

Downloading SQL Express Server 2005

Hello World,

I am trying to download the SQL Express Server 2005 software direct from Microsoft. I am having trouble locating the ENGLISH version. I am located in Frane but prefer using software in my native language....no pun intended. Every attempt to d/l gives me the French version. Can anyone provide me a link for the ENU version of SQL Express Server 2005.

Thank You in Advance,

Jens Suessmeyer,

Thank you very much for the link that gives me the path to the ENU of SQL Server Express 2005.

I know it would appear simple but I had not found a solution to have the link for whatever reason.... I am certain it has been operator error on my part.

Jens Suessmeyer,

Sometimes I forget to simply put a third party search engine to use and I get stuck in a website using their proprietary search engine.

I am happy that the age old clich "two heads are better than one" applies in this case.

Downloading shared datasources

If there are multiple developers, can we download the shared data sources
that are stored on the server? Or does each report developer need to create
their own?
Thanks,Hey all the developers can use the same shared datasource but through VSS
then the reports can be well controlled.

Downloading sample SQL Server Studio Express Database

I'm looking for a sample Database that is well set up to learn from. Does anyone know where I can download one from?SeeSQL Server 2005 Samples and Sample Databases.

Downloading sample databases

I am trying to download the sample databases for SQL Server 2005 and SQL

As I often find to be the case, http://www.codeplex.com is not available. I
have reported this on the codeplex forums in the past. It does not appear
that there has ever been an improvement in the availability of this site.
When I need something from that site, it seems to be unavailable more than it
is available.
Here is the result of running tracert on the site, showing that the problem
is internal within Microsoft's own network:

Firstly, I would like to suggest/request that the important developer
downloads that have been moved to codeplex.com, such as enterprise library
and sql server sample databases, be made available in the MSDN subscriber
downloads.
Secondly, and more important right now, is that I need those downloads and
the site is not available. I am trying to understand some code from MSDN and
BOL that uses the sample databases. Before I can understand that code so
that I can use the information from BOL in the task I am working on today, I
need to have the sample databases for SQL Server 2005 for certain and,
hopefully, SQL Server 2008. As a MSDN subscriber, please tell me where I can
get those downloads other than the unavailable codeplex.com site.
Thanks,
Dale
Thank you for your uresponse, Gail. I did finally get the samples
downloaded. I attached them to my developer version of SQL Server 2005 by
copying the mdf and ldf files from the default installation in Express
Edition.
*Big sigh of relief*... That was two hours waisted. It probably would not
have been so frustrating if the issues with CodePlex availability didn't
happen so often.
Thanks again for your quick response.

Downloading RS

Hello,

I have SQL Server Standard installed in one of our Windows Server 2003, where should I request or download real version of Reporting Services? I do not want to install trial version to avoid re-installation in the future.

Thanks,

You need a minimum of SQL Server Developer edition for RS|||Yes, but even more than that - you have to "fill in" a form and MS will send the CD to you for a "full" production version of MSRS!
This is the only way I know of in order to get a full licensed copy of MSRS - and not have to worry about the "trial" version!
I have made numerous post about this exact topic - but the "moderator" keeps rejecting! - but -
Since it is a "lucky" Irish day -

Downloading from AS 400

I am trying to use Integration Services for something I've never done before; i.e., download a few files from an AS 400 and then turn around an email them to a user.

My basic problem is that I don't know where to start to get the files from the AS400 to a directory on the SQL Server. I have an Iseries ODBC connection configured correctly that will let me get to the files. Do I use a file system task to get the files from the AS 400 or do I use a data flow task? Don't know what task to start with. Once I get the files into a directory on the SQL server I don't think I will have any trouble emailing them.

I know it's a silly question but I've looked at a couple of books without any obvious answer popping out.

Steve Wells

if you are trying to get he files as files then your most likely solution woudl be to use FTP to transfer them. The ODBC connectivity, such as it is in SSIS, is for accessing data as rowsets.

downloading data to excel

Hi,

I want to download data to excel in which each filename varies depending on the day i download them.

Ex.

ExportFile_09272007.xls

Can this be possible?

cherriesh

You need a variable to build the name of the Excel file.

In a script use this variable to create the excel file.

Then create your excel connection to an existing file and in the expressions of this connection assign the value to the ExcelFilePath & ServerName.

I hope it helps!

|||

hi,

what i did, in the expressions property (connectionstring) of the excel connection manager, i put this path:

"C:\\Cube Reports\\Excel\\" + @.[System:Stick out tongueackageName] + "Logs" +
(DT_STR,4,1252)DATEPART( "yyyy" , @.[System:Tongue TiedtartTime] ) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_STR,4,1252)DATEPART( "mm" , @.[System:Tongue TiedtartTime] ), 2) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_STR,4,1252)DATEPART( "dd" , @.[System:Tongue TiedtartTime] ), 2) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_STR,4,1252)DATEPART( "hh" , @.[System:Tongue TiedtartTime] ), 2) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_STR,4,1252)DATEPART( "mi" , @.[System:Tongue TiedtartTime] ), 2) +
RIGHT("0" + (DT_STR,4,1252)DATEPART( "ss" , @.[System:Tongue TiedtartTime] ), 2) +
".xls"

when i tried running the report, it gives me this error:

Nonfatal errors occurred while saving the package:

Error at ExportToExcel [connection manager "excel connection manager"]: the connection string formal is not valid. it must consist of one or more components of the form x=y, separated by semicolons. this error occurs when a connection string with zero components is set on database connection manager.

cherriesh

|||You have to set the ExcelFilePath not the Connection string property!|||

hi,

so here's what i've done, in the expression i set the excelfile path to "C:\\Cube Reports\\Excel"

I set the server name to "localhost"

what's the variable you mentioned? I don't have any script object. I only have oledb source, then excel destination.

can you detail the solution... thanks a lot!!!

cherriesh

|||

The “excel destination” assumes that the Excel file exists. So you have to create your file, you can accomplish this with a “Script Task”. While creating the Excel file you have to provide the file name, this is the same that you need for the ExcelFilePath, so you can save it in a variable.

If you do it like that, you may have another code for getting the file name how ever I think your expression should return

“C:\Cube Reports\Excel\TestLogs20070927145711.xls”. I got that.

Download: SQL Server Management Studio Express

I have an instance of SQL Server 2005 running on a server. I know that Management Studio is available to me on the server through Programs.

What do I need on my client computer used for development to access the instance on the server? Is it as simple as a shortcut to the server Management Studio exe? Do I access it through Internet Explorer? Or what do I have to install on the client to be able to manager the server DB's?

Apparently this must be very easy because I've looked all over and can't find the answer. Thank you in advance.

Use the SQL Server installation CD, and choose the "Install Client Tools" options. At least you'll need to install client connectivity, and if you want the query editor, and other development tools, then you'll need the Management Studio.

I don't think it's just as simple as creating a shortcut link to the management studio EXE file on your server, you're best off installing it properly.|||

installed client components, as per description, client connectivity but there is no management studio only 2 tools: 'Surface Area Configuration' and '...Configueation Manager' - it doesn't realy help!

I'd like to have the management studio on client ... how can I get it?

|||Have a look at the following thread on MSDN's Channel 9. Others were having a similar issue.
http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=142941

It appears that you may need to launch it separately from the Tools directory on your installation media.|||the reason: IE6SP1 was absent! after installation I could choose management studio from DVD/TOOLS. Thanks!|||Are the management tools available for Download?|||For the Express edition, you can download it here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/

If you're using the Standard/Enterprise/Developer edition, it should be on your installation media (DVD > TOOLS directory)

Download/Install SQL RS 2005 Alone--not the whole chunk of SQL2005

Hey all,
Is there anywhere that I could download trial version of SQL 2005 Reporting
services alone...not the whole junk of SQL Server 2005. I need just the
Reporting services. another question is I have SQL 2005 Developer Edition
CTP(community tchnology preview) DVD and I am looking at a way to upgrade
only reporting services from 2000 to 2005.But the set up wont let me do just
that. It insists that I upgrade the server also. Please let me know!!!Hi,
You can only download the complete package of SQL Server 2005 and I believe
it will be by its release. Reporting Service 2005 is a part of SQL Server
2005. Compare it to the Analysis Server part: you can't download it seperate
from the SQL Server part.
For your upgrading problem: Maybe it is a 'feature' of the CTP install,
haven't tried it this way. But you could try to install the SQL Server 2005
at a new instance and make SRS to install/upgrade at the instance of the 2000
version.
Hope this would help you.

Download Windows server

Hi!
I am confused ...downloaded Microsoft SQL server 2005 (for reporting services) to my Windows 2002 (32-bit systems), but it asks me to install the service packs as well...

So Windows XP Service Pack 2 is already installed.
And I need to download Windows server 2000 or 2003 R2, but where could I find a free trial version?

Do I also need Asp.net and IIS?
I would be very grateful for some help... to clarify which components needed.

Since you're wanting RS, you'll need to install SQL Server Express with Advanced Services. Here's the link:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/compare/default.aspx

This product is supported on XP SP2, so you won't need to do any OS upgrades.

Thanks,
Sam Lester (MSFT)

|||Thank you so much!
I get the following answer though "Your OS does nor support the Service Pack required for this SQL server release."

So my OS is 2002...
How do I check which SP required?
I did not find any .net Framework 2.0 SP.|||I managed to download SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced

Services SP1, and noticed Reporting services are available but how about "Analysis services" ?
|||

Analysis Services does not ship with any of the Express SKUs. It is part of the other SKUs (Enterprise, Standard, etc). If you want to play around with it, you can download the evaluation version found here:

The problem you are hitting is a problem with Apples installer. You forum you asked the question in was a Microsoft forum related to a product called SQL Server, Idid a quick search and found the below but I suggest you ask apple the question.

I'm having the same issues...Were you able to resolve your problems and if so how did you?...

Thanks,

Chief

|||Google sent me here with the exact same problem. I might be nice to post the answer, not just say, wrong forum.|||Other than the posts we already made the people here are not experts in itunes or vista so they don't know the answer|||

No I was never able to solve the problem how about you. this really stinks that we can't solve this issue. I feel that every body wants to pass it to someone else and say that it is not there problem. Do you feel the same way?

If this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304405 did not work then please contact Apple.

I understand your frustration but I am not sure why google is sending you all here, this forum is where peers are supported by each other (not by Microsoft) for questions surrounding Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects programming problems.

The reason we are all being sent here is because f*cking apple, in their wisdom, are useless in solving this issue & they are the ones passing the buck by suggesting we pursue an answer via vbscript, which of course, is a microsoft product.

If I knew apple would care (which they do not) I would sent them a scathing email, but for now, I am using limewire for downloads and I'm not bothering to update my ipod.

I found the followling website that helped me. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304405.

After I did what they said I had no more problems with the download.
